Objectives
This project was first approved in March 2012 and is unique in that it is unlike traditional research projects and, it does not specifically fit the grant proposal criteria as outlined in the instructions. Continued funding for this grant would help to encourage the core group of 5 or more influential independent community pharmacists, who have participated in the NCPDP standard development process for the past year, to remain active in the process, provide an additional forum for sharing their specialized expertise, and go far in developing mutual understanding among pharmacy stakeholders and throughout the healthcare system. NCPDP is an ANSI-accredited standards development organization dedicated to maintaining balance in its consensus-building process. Due to the success of the initial grant proposal, it is evident that both community pharmacists and NCPDP greatly benefit from this project. An extension will build upon the quality of input community pharmacists can provide to the standards development process and increase their involvement. Due to the complexity of the standards development, it takes a full year for NCPDP members integrate into the process. Continued funding through CPF will help community pharmacists develop into leadership positions within NCPDP through their continued involvement.
