Objectives
This grant will help ensure that the interests of community pharmacy practice are well represented at a September 2012 consensus-seeking conference designed to advise the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education on the next generation of standards for Doctor of Pharmacy educational programs. A portion of the grant--10,000--will be used to fund conference participation by five at-large community pharmacy practitioners. Other community pharmacists will be selected by national pharmacy organizations. The balance of the grant--28,500--will be used to develop and conduct a survey of conference participants on the future competency requirements of pharmacists in community practice and other settings. Overall, the conference will help ensure that accredited Pharm.D. programs continue to equip pharmacy graduates with the competencies required in community pharmacy and other sectors of the profession, currently and into the future. The conference will also seek consensus on evidenced-based practices that ACPE should consider in assessing the quality of Pharm.D. programs, including experiential education in community pharmacy.
