Objectives
As healthcare reform continues to be implemented, the pursuit of provider status for pharmacists is fully underway, and as the need for an increasing number of pharmacists trained in the ambulatory care community pharmacy environment, the profession finds itself in need of a strategic plan for the future of Community Pharmacy Residency Programs. At just short of 30 years from the inception of the Community Pharmacy Residency Program initiative, the time has come to summon thought leaders from the profession to engage in a well-informed and thoughtful discussion and deliberation on the future of these programs, their place and potential contribution to the future of the profession. It is the objective of this project to bring together a group of influential thought leaders in residency training to develop a vision and detailed strategic plan for the future of these programs to maximize the benefit of these programs to our future pharmacists and to the profession as a whole. Through a series of live and virtual discussions, a select group of key thought leaders in practice, academia and residency training will participate in facilitated discussions and planning. The deliverables of the project will be a publishable whitepaper, detailing the consensus of the groups thoughts and vision and highlights from the strategic plan, and a full strategic plan detailing goals, objectives, and tactics and action steps to take the initiative into the future.
